The family that runs Knutholmen stand smiling.

In the 1860’s, Kalvåg was one of the largest fishing villages on the coast. Home to 12000 inhabitants, a bustling place with a hospital, church, a sheriff and seven shops. Our grandfather came to Kalvåg in 1952 to run the grocery store. Then in the 70’s, the herring disappeared, conditions changed and when our father took over, Kalvåg was a different place.

Kalvåg

By 1989, the quay was closed and deteriorating. Since then, the whole Fosse family has contributed to rebuilding the pier and the sea houses, to refurbishing the old fishermen’s cabins and building new apartments, to help preserve the old culture of the coast.

Knutholmen

Now the siblings Jan Fredrik and Martine run the business. Born and raised here, they know story of the hotel by heart. Their astuteness and care have made Knutholmen what it is today, as well as playing a part in the re-development of local society.

Sustainability

The ocean means a lot to us

We take our environment seriously. We use produce and products supplied by local businesses, and we have chosen to reduce our consumption of red meat and farmed fish. Our activities are based on the natural environment that surrounds us. Care of the sea and its resources is vital. Knutholmen was certified a Miljøfyrtårn (environmentally friendly business) and awarded Company of the Year within Tourism in Sogn og Fjordane in 2013.

We are actively involved in developing local society to meet our common future.

Knutholmen has an approved apprenticeship program for training waiters and chefs.

Sustainability through quality is our core value.
